Intro
Tony Horton. This man takes his body seriously. So seriously, in fact, that you may know him from the popular series of “Nordic Track” commercials a few years back. Tony started tweaking his workouts to maximize the return on time he was investing each week, and he began teaching others the tricks that worked for him. The results were explosive: a workout guru was born, and P90X was released for fitness enthusiasts everywhere. Then, Tony upped the ante when he announced that the sequel, P90X2, was due for release in December 2011.
The release date has now come and gone, and we have the lowdown on whether this hardcore strength-training workout really delivers the goods. So, let’s dive in and take a closer look at the program to determine if it’s worth the money – and all the hype – before you decide to buy.
The P90X2 Workouts
The P90X2 Workout System is made up of 12 new core-strengthening exercises that go a step beyond the exercises delivered in the first P90X workout. First, the X2 Core is a basic workout that uses isometric exercises to build your muscle strength and endurance. Most of the exercises in this DVD focus on your core and the larger leg muscles. Next, the Balance and Power DVD is an unstoppable combination of balance postures and weight lifting to work the core more deeply and tighten muscles where you need it most.
The Plyocide DVD centers around endurance and speed, and the routines are fairly complex, so you need to be extremely focused to get the maximum benefit from this portion of the program. The X2 Recovery + Mobility is mostly stretching, and there is a bit of yoga and a lot of foam roller thrown in for good measure – great to do during one of your rest days.
X2 Total Body is up next, and it covers back exercises, bicep shaping, toning your triceps, and workouts focused on the legs and chest. X2 Yoga is also part of the program, and it’s great for beginners. The moves aren’t too hard to follow and the pace is light enough to keep up with.
The workouts also include Balance + Power, which helps body alignment, and Chest + Back + Balance, which does the same, but it includes your chest muscles. P90X2 also includes the X2 Shoulders + Arms DVD, one for your Base + Back, P.A.P. Lower, which focuses on two four-round complexes of movements for your lower body that athletes swear by. Then, there’s P.A.P. Upper, which does the same for your upper body.
The X2 Ab Ripper will obliterate your flabby abs and replace them with abs of steel, and the program comes with a “Power Your Performance Fitness Guide” that will serve as your 90-day road map as you work the program.

Advantages of P90X2
The biggest advantage of P90X2 is that it’s based on the concept of “muscle confusion.” This means that you are effectively removing the plateaus that muscles fall into after 30 days of the same workouts. This concept is based on results that top trainers in the world have used for sports figures and celebrities for years. The idea is known as P.A.P. – and it stands for Post-Activation Potentiation. With it, you can get that chiseled look for your body and the core you’ve dreamed of, according to the commercials. But what are real people saying about it? We went on Amazon to answer that question for ourselves, and were pretty pumped by what we found.
What Others are Saying
P90X2 has scored some great reviews from people who have purchased the system on Amazon and implemented the workout for themselves. Most say that the program is very focused on balance, and if you’re a P90X grad or someone with an established workout regimen already in place, you stand to benefit immensely from the heavy-duty core training it provides.
Here are some comments that customers made on Amazon after using P90X2:
- “It’ll change the heck out of you!”
- “Amazing program”
- “Brings stability to another level!”
- “I’m now a believer in Tony Horton”
Any Complaints?
The biggest complaint that customers have noted in their reviews is that you cannot jump into this program as a complete newbie. Completing the original P90X before trying to tackle P90X2 is a good idea, but it’s not necessarily a requirement. However, you should currently be involved in some kind of strength training program. You don’t need to work this system cold. You must ensure that your body is prepared for regular periods of strenuous exercise before you start P90X2, so the biggest disadvantage of this program is that it’s not for beginners, plain and simple.
Where Can I Buy the P90X2 Workout System at Best Price?
You can buy the P90X2 Workout System from Amazon. Right now, Amazon is including free Super Saver Shipping, and when we compared pricing for this system against other merchants, we found that Amazon gives you the most bang for your buck, hands-down. Most other online retailers are selling it at a higher price – and you’re charged to have it shipped when you order.
